Rutronik presents the PCB Slimline Smart Card Connector PDF Print E-mail

Posted by Jade Po Kellard on 16 July 2008 at 06:00

With a height of just 3 mm, the PCB Slimline Smart Card Connector from Amphenol is ideal for use in nearly all applications where space is critical. Measuring a mere 56 x 30 mm, the space demands of the smart card are reduced by more than half. Such unique features enable the use of the connector in many applications, including the latest generation of POS-terminals and electric, gas and water meters. The new connector is available at distributor Rutronik now.

In a product designed for security, contacts are protected and metal casing provides high mechanical stability, ensuring no two cards can be inserted at one time. A secure switch forms the basis for safe card presence detection in every type of application, while gold-plated wiping contacts guarantee a lifespan of up to 100,000 mating cycles. Capable for Pick &  Place and surface mount soldering, the PCB Slimline can be economically integrated into large-scale series production.

Variants with Flexprint are also available and can be adapted to meet individual customer requirements. When installed with the optional addition of tamper protection, the product fulfils all PCI/PET specifications; a basic requirement that payment terminals demand.

Small Matters

Synergy, the Occam process and twisted wire interconnect

Lead-Free Matters

Measuring package on package-possible procedure, comments welcome

Package on package assembly features paste-only assembly or a combination of solder paste at board level and dip flux on the top row of ball terminations.
