Association Connecting Electronics Industries® and its Designers Council announce the 2009 Designers Summit, March 29–April 2 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Convention Center in Las Vegas. The Designers Summit, targeted specifically for printed circuit board (PCB) designers and held in conjunction with IPC APEX EXPO™, will offer designers focused design programs as well as exposure to the latest advancements in other critical areas of the supply chain.

Designers Day on March 30 dedicates a full day to critical design challenges, including manufacturability and final signal integrity, electromagnetic interference (EMI) control, design for high density interconnect (HDI), and the myths and reality about the power delivery network (PDN). Presenters include noted industry experts Rick Hartley, senior principal engineer, L-3 Avionics; Happy Holden, senior technologist, Mentor Graphics; Eric Bogatin, president, Bogatin Enterprises; and Dieter Bergman, IPC director of technology transfer.

“Knowing how PC board design can contain and control electric and magnetic fields will take EMI issues from guess work to everyday practice,” said Hartley about his presentation on designing for EMI control. “Things as small as proper routing and board stack can make a massive difference in the EMI signature of a circuit or system.”

In addition to offering real-world solutions to design challenges, the Designers Summit enables valuable peer interaction - one of the most important benefits in the eyes of Ruth Delker, CID, senior PCB designer for Cipher Systems. “If I could offer this one bit of advice,” said Delker, “it would be to arrive early, bring business cards, collect others and don’t be afraid to introduce yourself and ask questions. When you get back to work, remember to keep the handouts from Designer Day nearby. They’re a great reference tool and I refer to mine often.”

Prior to Designers Day, the Designers Summit kicks off on March 26–28 with designer certification workshops and exams. The certified interconnect designer (CID) and advanced certified interconnect designer (CID+) designations are powerful credentials for designers wishing to promote their commitment and expertise in the PCB design industry.

While attending IPC APEX EXPO, designers can also take advantage of full- and half-day professional development courses, the industry’s premier technical conference, standards development meetings and time on the exhibition floor.
