ITRI forges further links with China PDF Print E-mail

Representatives of ITRI, the International Tin Association, have visited China to participate in the ‘Annual Conference of the Chinese Solder Association’ held in Xian, 17th-18th May.

ITRI is looking to forge close links with all sectors of the Chinese tin industry to help develop and support demand for tin products. It is also offering Chinese tin producers and users the opportunity to access ITRI’s global networks and to facilitate co-operation in areas of technology and market development.

To this end ITRI has signed a Co-operation Agreement with the Chinese Solder Association which commits the two organisations to a number of joint initiatives.

Speaking from Xian, Dr Jeremy Pearce, Technology Team Leader for ITRI, commented; “the Chinese Solder Association is an influential organisation and represents an ideal focal point for ITRI to interact with this important tin using sector. We have a number of common goals and working more closely together will enable ITRI to better understand the critical factors affecting the Chinese solder sector. We can use our global networks such as Soldertec Global to provide an international perspective on some of the issues and bring strong technical co-operation and support.”

Soldering is overwhelmingly the largest tin use sector globally, and China with its huge electronics industry is the world’s single biggest market.  ITRI believes that it is in the long term interest of the tin industry to foster global co-operation and exchange of views in areas such as research, technology, environment, and sustainability.

Professor Meng, the Chairman of the Chinese Solder Association commented; “ we have had contact with ITRI for some time now and welcome the opportunity for our two organisations to align themselves more closely and to work together in the interests of the solder industry, not only in China but also worldwide. Such co-operation is essential where markets are challenged by environmental issues, sustainability, and rapid changes in technology.”

It is hoped that this new initiative will help the Chinese solder industry to develop a roadmap of key challenges and that ITRI can support this based on its global contacts and knowledge base.

Small Matters

Synergy, the Occam process and twisted wire interconnect

The term/concept of synergy seems very apt when applied to the interaction of the Occam process solderless assembly concept in combination with a unique PCB interconnection technology called twisted wire interconnect or TWI.

Lead-Free Matters

Measuring package on package-possible procedure, comments welcome

Package on package assembly features paste-only assembly or a combination of solder paste at board level and dip flux on the top row of ball terminations.
