Panel debates constraints on modern electronics design under ELC chairmanship PDF Print E-mail

Posted by Jade Po Kellard on 10 June 2009 at 06:00

Altium reseller Premier EDA Solutions Ltd announces details of its panel meeting which will be held at the UK Design Innovation Conference during National Electronics Week in June.

The theme for the debate will be "Are there too many constraints on modern electronics design?" and will bring together the views of UK electronics industry champions in a lively discussion designed to focus thought and provoke action.

The debate will seek to:
    • understand the current state of the industry
    • define what a constraint is and how to address it
    • promote the UK as a location for investment
    • encourage the spread of best practice
    • discuss how the perpetual demand for electronics related design skills can be addressed

Panellists will raise the debate on key issues specific to their sector and then throw the subject open to the audience for discussion. This will be a one-hour lively debate culminating in closing remarks from the Chairman. In keeping with the philosophy of the UK Design Innovation Conference, this event will be free-of-charge and open to all visitors to National Electronics Week on Weds 17th June.

"There is much to debate and many different viewpoints" says Phil Mayo, MD of Premier, "We have deliberately selected a 'woolly' theme to allow for maximum scope for the discussions and our panellists have similarly been selected to help achieve the widest possible viewpoints."

The panel will comprise:-

    • Harry Tee, Chairman, Electronics Leadership Council (chair)
    • Huvin Thompson, VP of Instrumentation & Analytical, ABB
    • Nick Kings, Hardware Engineering Manager, Ericsson
    • David Brooks, ex-VP Systems Architecture, Snell & Wilcox
    • Richard Hollinshead, Director of Engineering, Meridian Audio
    • Steven Kear, Director, AND Technology

"We intend to cross traditional boundaries with this debate" says Mayo, "The UK Design Innovation Conference creates an excellent platform for the whole electronics design community at what is the only national electronics event in the UK. It is important therefore for the whole community to take this opportunity and get behind the show."

The UK Design Innovation Conference will be held during National Electronics Week from 16th to 18th June at London's Earls Court. Full details are available at http://www.eda.co.uk/news&events_new09_conference.htm.

The Panel Session will be held on Weds 17th June starting at 10:30 in the central conference area.
