Bourns CRF1206 CRM2512-FT Power ResistorsBourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, today announced the introduction of two new power resistor products that provide high power density in a small form factor designed to satisfy the growing demand for low-power, space-saving devices.  Designated Bourns® models CRF1206 and CRM2512-FT, the new power resistors are also RoHS compliant.  Bourns’ CRF1206 power resistor is constructed from a stamped metal alloy boasting an extremely low one watt of power in an ultra small 1206 size package.  Bourns’ CRM2512-FT is a new surface mount power resistor that features a power rating of two watts in a small 2512 size package.

The small package size and low power features of Bourns’ CRF1206 make it an ideal solution for power supplies and stepper motor drive applications.  Bourns’ CRF1206 features low inductance (less than 5 nH) and resistance values of 0.01 and 0.02 ohms with TCRs of +100 PPM/ºC and +75 PPM/ºC respectively.  This new power resistor is also rated to handle overload conditions equivalent to five times the operating power for up to five seconds.

Bourns’ CRM2512-FT power resistor meets ITU-T K.20, K.21 and K.45 basic test requirements within rated limits for telecom ports designed for Metallic Ended Line Test (MELT) functionality such as ADSL and VDSL2 hardware or for telecom line test equipment.

"Bourns’ latest extension of the company’s fixed resistors product line provides a viable solution for engineers facing the increasing challenge of designing highly integrated circuitry with low power consumption in ever smaller form factors,” said Cathal Sheehan, product marketing manager for Bourns Resistive Products Division.  “The company is committed to continuing the tradition of introducing the latest generation of power resistor products to help solve design challenges for designers and our OEM customers worldwide.”

Pricing and Availability
Bourns’ new power resistors are available now.  As a pricing reference, Bourns’ CRF1206 power resistor is priced from $0.25-$0.30 in 10,000 piece quantities and Bourns’ CRM2512-FT power resistor is priced from $0.10-$0.14 in 8,000 piece quantities.

Bryan Gass—Techcon Systems

Bryan talks to Trevor Galbraith about why he believes that implementing a rigid strategy now will strengthen Techcon Systems in these challenging times and beyond.

Small Matters

Synergy, the Occam process and twisted wire interconnect

The term/concept of synergy seems very apt when applied to the interaction of the Occam process solderless assembly concept in combination with a unique PCB interconnection technology called twisted wire interconnect or TWI.

Lead-Free Matters

Measuring package on package-possible procedure, comments welcome

Package on package assembly features paste-only assembly or a combination of solder paste at board level and dip flux on the top row of ball terminations.
