At the Productronica 2007 in hall A5, stand A5, Munich-based Siemens A&D Electronics Assembly Systems (EA) will once again demonstrate its technology leadership by unveiling the Siplace X4i, its new top-of-the-line model. Gabriela Reckewerth, the company’s director of global marketing is busy preparing for this year’s Productronica with her team, and explains some of the new machine’s details: “This new 4-gantry machine enables even more flexible production concepts in SMT manufacturing. With its real-life placement performance rating of more than 100,000 cph, it is the current world record holder and will certainly be the highlight of this year’s Productronica.”
The competitiveness of electronics manufacturers depends to a large extent on the performance of their technical equipment. Performance is not only measured in “components per hour”, but also in terms of flexibility, quality and reliability. As the new top model of Siemens, the Siplace X4i combines all these attributes in an exemplary manner.
The machine’s outstanding feature is its real-life placement performance. While other companies try to top each other with theoretical benchmark values, Siplace breaks through the “sound barrier” of 100,000 cph on the plant floor and on the basis of the non-proprietary IPC standard. Despite its unsurpassed speed, the machine does not make any compromises in terms of line configuration and flexibility during product changeovers.
With innovations in circuit board transportation and software, the Siemens engineers provide electronics manufacturers with significant improvements in production flexibility. The Siplace X4i, which will be demonstrated live at this year’s Productronica, is equipped with a flexible dual conveyor and can populate boards in synchronous as well asynchronous mode. One new feature of the Siplace X4: the flexible dual conveyor can be configured to provide a third track (the so-called Productivity Lane) by using the space between the board being populated.
In addition, the machine features a totally new placement concept called i-Placement. With i-Placement, both heads operate simultaneously and populate one board each completely independently of each other.
Since placement heads and component carts are always assigned to one particular side of the machine during i-Placement, setups become easier, and different boards can be manufactured on the same line. Even in dual conveyor mode, the Siplace X4i is able to handle boards up to 250mm x 380 mm large, thus maintaining the broad spectrum of the previous Siplace X-Series models and covering about 90 percent of all current products.
Only the combination of technologically leading placement machines and innovative manufacturing solutions enables users to operate productively. In addition to features like speed and flexibility, factors like value retention and investment protection are also very important. Siemens is not afraid to face its competitors head-on with its production concepts and solutions and offers its customers concrete help for making the right investment decision.
