The Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) announced today that the International Conference on Soldering and Reliability will be held April 17-19, 2007 at the Park Plaza Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The drive for smaller, more functional consumer electronics along with the need for highly reliable electronics for industrial, bio-medical, aerospace and automotive applications have kept the material, process and quality engineers busy planning for the future. The European Union’s directive on lead-free electronics which became a reality on July 1, 2006 complicates that with the variety of alloy choices, component compatibility and mixed-solder concerns. Soldering and reliability engineers and designers need to come together to share their knowledge and their vision.
Following on the very successful 2005 and 2006 International Conferences on Lead-free Soldering, SMTA is planning this broader International Conference on Soldering and Reliability for 2007.
Topics to be covered include:
- SnPb with lead-free components
- Reliability
- Harsh Environment
- Tin Whiskers
- New Alloys
- Electromigration
- Thermal dissipation
- Manufacturing Process
- Supply Chain Issues
- Advanced Packaging
- New Substrate Materials
- Surface finishes
- Thermal Interface Materials
- Underfill
If you would like to present at this conference, please submit a 200-300 word abstract to Melissa Serres at melissa@smta.org by January 31, 2007. Include a title, author name and contact information with your abstract. Technical papers are optional for this event but powerpoint presentations are required and will be due on March 23, 2007.
The conference was previously coordinated by the Centre for Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging (CMAP) and will be run by the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) for 2007. It is co-sponsored by the International Electronic Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI) and the SMTA Toronto Chapter.
SMTA Certification and Workshops will be held on April 17, and the Conference and Certification will be held April 18 and 19. Exhibits will also be held on April 18 and 19, with a cost of $350 for booth space, or $750 for booth space and one conference pass. SMTA Corporate Members receive a 15 percent discount on exhibit registrations.
